Courtyard D’ORO

John and Jelena

Named for its charming open-air brick courtyard and the handsome adjoining banquet facility, Courtyard D’ORO is located in the historic gold rush town of Old Sacramento. Courtyard D’ORO is a part of the What Cheer House, a hotel built in 1853 on the southeast corner of Front and K Streets (California Historical Landmark #597), on the original street level of Sacramento.

In 2008, one of the landmark’s owners, a fellow Jesuit High School graduate, offered John Obad the opportunity to remodel this section of the What Cheer House.  John single-handedly renovated the premises into its present spacious and welcoming atmosphere.  Although it is offered for use as a meeting room, concert venue and banquet facility, weddings are a specialty.

John and his sister Jelena were born on the Dalmatian coast of Croatia.  In this area of large extended families, “wedding” means:  days of celebration with friends and loved ones, romance and laughter, delicious food, wine and desserts, music and dancing till dawn.  John, Jelena and their spouses have created an intimate family-owned business dedicated to providing the special touches your event deserves.
